REATIL NOTES | JOE MARUSAK
Princesses for your child's next party Kendall Brandano (left), 5, of Denver, and Elle Sommerville, 9, of Cornelius, had their faces painted by Princess Birthdays.

DENVER - If your child loves princesses, why not have a "real" one show up at her next party? Jenn Brandano and her Denver-based Princess Birthdays will entertain the kids with characters such as Snow Princess, Mermaid Princess, Beauty Princess, Tween Diva and Posh Punk Fairy. Brandano plays princesses, and she has four additional women who are independently contracted princesses.

Brandano, 29, and her husband, Joe, live in Denver with their daughter, Kendall Brandano, 5. She said they were living in Boca Raton, Fla., when they had an amazing fairy-tale princess at Kendall's fourth birthday party. "Princess parties were all the rage amongst her preschool peers," Brandano said in an e-mail. "When we moved to the Charlotte area this past August, I was looking for a similar service, but there wasn't one. I had a light-bulb moment. I am an artist, a performer, and I adore children. I need to start this business, and Princess Birthdays was born."

Brandano said Princess Birthdays is her dream job, one in which Kendall is the creative director. "She has been very involved in developing the show, costumes and purchasing prizes," Jenn said. "This is so much fun for us! The five of us -- princesses, that is -- really enjoy what we're doing, and it shows."

Kids invited to the party can dress up in their own princess costumes. Princess Birthdays also has boy-oriented prizes such as ugly fake teeth. It creates balloon sculpture swords and can offer superhero face-painting. The visiting actress or actresses work with whatever amount of space the family provides. Brandano says parents can create more space for the interactive shows by pushing the furniture against the walls or clearing some from the room.
